Experience the serenity and solitude of remote backcountry campsites.
Permits are required year-round and are only available online. Online permits have been in effect since June 2020.

Remember that backcountry camping requires you to be self-sufficient and hike into your camp!

Campsites
There are seven backcountry areas including Little Bald Hills (5 sites), DeMartin (10 sites), Flint Ridge (8 sites), Gold Bluffs Beach (2 sites), Elam Camp (3 sites), 44 Camp (4 sites), and dispersed camping along the Redwood Creek gravel bars (50 permits of 2 people).
Fees
Fees are only associated with the Gold Bluffs Beach backcountry area. The $5 per person, per night fee is payable at the adjacent front country campground. Little Bald Hills, DeMartin, Flint Ridge, Elam Camp, 44 Camp, and Redwood Creek gravel bar dispersed camping are free.
Accessibility
Backcountry campsites are not on accessible trails and pets are not permitted. Service animals are welcome.
Reception
Backcountry campsites are in remote areas of the park. There is no cell phone reception.
Parking during your backcountry trip
- Approved overnight parking areas for each backcountry site can be found in the backcountry campsite hyperlinks above
- If you would like to park at Tall Trees Trailhead, a separate permit is required. Apply now. Please apply for your parking permit before any backcountry permits to ensure you can park at your desired location.
