Redwood Parks Conservancy's 34th Annual Candlelight Walk Through the Ancient Redwoods will be held on Saturday, December 2nd & Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 from 5pm-8pm. The Candlelight Walk is held each year as a fundraiser for RPC and the parks we support, including Redwood National and State Parks. Both nights are currently sold out. Event will take place rain or shine. 

We’ve made some minor changes to the event this year so please read on for details. Here’s what to expect at this year’s walk:

CHECK-IN: “Doors” open at 5pm for attendee check-in. Please bring a printed or digital copy of your ticket to the check-in booth. Please note that there will be no cell service or no internet on-site.

WEATHER: The Candlelight Walk will take place rain or shine! 

LOCATION & DIRECTIONS: Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is located 50 miles north of Eureka and 25.9 miles south of Crescent City.

Directions from the south: Highway 101 N. to Exit #753 (Newton B. Drury Parkway). Drive north on the Parkway for approx. 2 miles and park off to the side on the wide area of the Parkway.

Directions from the north: Highway 101 S. to Exit #753 (Newton B. Drury Parkway). Please note that the 1st exit (Exit #765) to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park will be CLOSED for Hike & Bike Day on SATURDAY ONLY. Drive north on Parkway for approx. 2 miles and park off to the side on the wide area of the Parkway. There will be a short walk from the Parkway to the visitor center. Please watch for traffic!

Event Schedule

5:00pm

Enjoy hot cider and snacks in the large tent along with a silent auction. Browse the visitor center for holiday gifts and souvenirs, and take in live music on the front porch!

5:15pm

Warm welcome and quick safety talk outside the visitor center before the trail is opened for self-guided walks. Walk out to the campfire center through old-growth redwoods on a path lit by hundreds of luminaries at your own pace.

5:30pm

Interpretive Ranger talk at the campfire center.

6:15pm

Local storyteller at the campfire center. 

6:45pm

Interpretive Ranger talk at the campfire center.

7:30pm

Local storyteller at the campfire center. Silent auction closes.

8:00pm

Event ends. Thank you for supporting the redwoods!

Note: Please be mindful of footing on the trail. It will be dark and the ground may be uneven.

Are there Candlelight Walk posters, magnets and pins available for purchase? Posters with the Candlelight Walk logo as well as pins, stickers, magnets and keychains are available in the RPC Store.  All proceeds support Redwood National and State Parks.
